Queensland
Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) was founded in 1959, when a small group of animal lovers was concerned with the inhumane treatment of impounded dogs.
Sixty years on, AWLQ cares for more than 10,000 stray and homeless animals, providing each with a second chance at life.
With four animal re-homing centres across Brisbane and the Gold Coast, AWLQ is one of the largest animal welfare organisations in Queensland. We work closely with local councils, rescue groups and the community to improve outcomes for homeless and surrendered pets.
AWLQ continues to keep its promise to never euthanise a healthy, sociable or treatable animal in our care. Every year, we re-unite more than 3,900 lost animals with their families and re-home another 6,300 animals.
