We appreciate family and loved ones should always come first, and believe that it is an important step to talk to your family about your Will. CANA’s members are grateful when people decide to include a gift in their Will, as this is a vital source of income for us to continue the lifesaving work of our members throughout Australia.  Be assured your donation with go directly to support the care, support of the companion animals.

  • Make or update your Will
    Your Will is an important document that must be properly prepared. CANA always recommends using a solicitor to make sure your Will is legal and valid. Your solicitor can advise you on the different ways of leaving a gift. Below is a checklist that can be downloaded to assist you to prepare documents to take to a solicitor – Your Will Preparation Checklist
  • Decide on your gift
    After family and loved ones are looked after, a bequest gift may be the most significant donation many of us will be able to make.

Different Types of Gifts

  • A fixed sum of money gift: also known as a pecuniary bequest, this gift is in the form of a specified cash amount.
  • Residual gift: By leaving a residual gift to Companion Animal Network Foundation, you are instructing your Executor that, once your debts are paid and specific gifts are distributed to loved ones named in your Will, the remainder (or a percentage of the remainder) of your Estate will be paid to the Companion Animal Network Australia. A residual bequest is a simple way to leave a gift that needn’t interfere with any other specific bequests left to loved ones.
  • Whole or part of your estate: you can leave your entire estate or any part of your Estate to the Companion Animal Network Foundation.
  • A fixed specific gift: a gift in the form of other property such as shares, investments, vehicles, boats or items of jewellery.

Preferred Wording

Following are examples of suggested wording recommended for leaving a gift in your Will to CANA. We always suggest you consult your solicitor for specific wording for your Will: a gift in the form of other property such as shares, investments, vehicles, boats or items of jewellery.

To donate a specific sum:    “I give to the Companion Animal Network Foundation[ABN 86 830 986 479] the sum of $………………. to be applied for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer for the time being shall constitute a full and sufficient discharge to my trustee who shall not be obliged to see or enquire as to the application of this gift.”

To donate your estate:     “I give the whole/percentage of my estate to. Companion Animal Network Foundation [ABN 86 830 986 479] to be applied to its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer for the time being shall constitute a full and sufficient discharge to my Trustee who shall not be obliged to see or enquire as to the application of this gift.”

To donate the residue of your estate:   “I give the whole/percentage of the residue of my estate to the Companion Animal Network Foundation [ABN 86 830 986 479] to be applied for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer for the time being shall constitute a full and sufficient discharge to my Trustee who shall not be obliged to see or enquire as to the application of this gift.”

Companion Animal Network Australia Foundation [ABN 86 830 986 479] is:
  • Registered as a charity in Australia
  • An incorporated association under the Associations Incorporation Act 1981
  • Endorsed as a deductible gift recipient
  • Endorsed for GST concessions

Supplying a Copy of Your Will

While it is not essential to have a copy of your Will, it assists CANA to ensure your wishes are fulfilled. Your details are held in the strictest of confidence and treated with upmost respect.
